Since August 2017, Darwin is our new media design apprentice, focussed on the print-section. He did 7 Months of internship, which he enjoyed a lot. So instead of starting to study communication-design, he decided to begin an education in our agency. But before the serious side of life began for him, he took some time to explore the world. Thailand probably will be his favorite country forever - not only because of the great weather, but the tasty food, too…yummy!

Just when in 1995 we were getting to a point where we didn’t know what to do with all the work we had, Sonja's application landed on our desk: Whiskas, Nokia, Holsten, DEA... TV, print, sales... and shortly afterwards her low-altitude flight landed at our agency. As a concept designer and professional copywriter, she didn’t just work on honing the edding campaign. After her stint as an employee of Art Works! in 2005 and 2006, Anna became self-employed. As trained professional violinist, studio musician, orchestra leader and lecturer at the Hamburg Conservatory, Rebecca knows about the interaction of overtones and nuances. I have known John since primary school. We always kept in touch, including when he was responsible for international sales at a large company in the consumer goods industry, taking his seat behind a desk overlooking the River Thames. Later, he moved into aviation. As German Managing Director of EasyJet and the chief of Germania and Fly Georgia, he likewise knows this competitive industry from the C-level perspective and knows what it means to carry responsibility. Heinrich is one of those lucky people who can combine their passion with their profession. He flew for the first time at the age of 16 and in his free time was soon teaching others the art of motorless flight. When he started his career in PR and marketing, international aviation with all its facets became his speciality. He gained extensive international experience in pan-European projects for clients such as Boeing and Cessna. He is the guy for the topics where you have to know a thing or two. Whether its air traffic or maintenance, supply logistics or airports, airlines or business aviation, his expertise is recognised. The sheer range of his experience is reflected in the quality of his communication concepts. Whenever something important in the world of aviation happens, he is much sought after by national and international media as a specialist in the true sense of the word. You could say that Theo grew up with air travel, because the Boberg gliding airfield is located right next door to us. No wonder he decided at the age of six to become a pilot. After graduation from secondary school, he set about turning his dream into reality, studying engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology, then studying in Bremen with an international degree programme combining aviation technology with management and ATPL training. At the same time, he perfected his skills as a digital art, design, photo, film and sound specialist while working as a student employee in a young Hamburg start-up. And now he builds and programmes our websites – with technical know-how and the feel for good design that runs in our family. That’s true for music too, by the way. Theo is an avid saxophone player.

And that’s no problem at all, because right now at our agency, when it comes to communication everything revolves and pivots around Hans, who finished his media design apprenticeship with us in February 2019. During my studies at the University of Hamburg, Armgartstraße (the present-day Hamburg University of Applied Sciences), I gained my first practical experiences at a medium-sized Hamburg advertising agency. What I learned there about design, workflows and project management was key to making the leap into self-employment. My favourite subject while studying was magazine design with Beat Nägeli and a well-designed magazine still inspires me today. So it’s fantastic that we can still repeatedly realise these kinds of projects in our agency.

Since Art Works! was founded in 1990, we have successfully advised many well-known and less well-known customers, developed concepts and turned numerous ideas into a reality. The bottom line through all these years is if you rely on good design, you are betting on the right horse. Speaking of horses: Horse-riding in all weathers is my favourite way of balancing life and work. Along with my commitment to Christian social work and my passion for my career, my three wonderful sons are of course the most important thing in my life!

In 1999, Imke became our first trainee. Being innovative, she chose to train as a media designer – back then an entirely new profession. From 2006 to 2009, she briefly turned her back on Art Works! so that she could return to us later with consummate expertise.
Imkes is responsible for developing communication strategies and concepts for our clients, as well as project management. Social media is very close to her heart, so she manages and plays on the social media channels with posts and ads and derives reports from them. Those are things that Imke really knows her way around!
